Adopting a dog is a lifelong commitment that brings immeasurable joy and companionship into your home. Before you adopt, it’s important to understand that caring for a dog goes beyond the initial excitement of bringing them home. Dogs require regular veterinary care, a balanced diet, daily exercise, and plenty of love and attention. As a rescue, we want to make sure our dogs find families who are prepared for the responsibility and ready to provide a safe and nurturing environment. We encourage you to consider how your lifestyle and resources will support the lifelong care of your new furry friend.
Adopting a CFP Dog
How the Adoption Process Works:
- Find a Dog You’re Interested In:
Browse our website, social media, Petfinder, or hear about our dogs through a friend. Once you’ve found a dog (or dogs) you’re interested in, move on to the next step! - Submit Your Application:
Complete our adoption application, listing the dog(s) you’re interested in. Our adoption team will review your application, verify the information, and may reach out for clarification. If all checks out, your application will be sent to the dog’s foster family, who will contact you to discuss next steps. We require that all applicants ensure their current and former pets are, and have been:- Up-to-date on vaccines (including Rabies, Distemper, and bordatella)
- On monthly preventatives (Heartworm & Flea & Tick)
- Spayed or neutered
- Receiving routine veterinary care (annual visits not just sick)
- Meet the Dog:
Once the foster family reviews your application and determines you may be a good fit, you’ll have the opportunity to meet the dog. All household members should attend this meeting to ensure everyone gets along. We require that all dogs in the home meet the CFP foster before moving forward with adoption. Afterward, let the foster family know if you’d like to move forward with the adoption. - Adoption Fee & Processing:
The $325 adoption fee covers spaying/neutering, vaccinations, microchipping, and other necessary veterinary care done while in rescue. Once a match is confirmed, we will:- Verify references, veterinary history, and landlord approval (if applicable)
- Finalize your application
- Final Steps:
After your application is fully approved, you’ll receive instructions on completing the adoption paperwork and paying the adoption fee. Once everything is finalized, you can welcome your new furry family member home!
