Adoption FAQs

1. What is included in the adoption fee?
The adoption fee covers spaying/neutering, vaccinations, microchipping, and any necessary veterinary care. For dogs, the fee is $325. For cats, the fee is $175.

2. Can I meet the pet before applying?
No, we require you to submit an application first. Once your application is approved, the foster family will contact you to arrange a meeting if it’s a good fit.

3. How long does the adoption process take?
The timeline varies but typically takes 1-2 weeks, depending on the completeness of your application, reference checks, and coordinating with the foster family.

4. Can I adopt if I live out of state?
We prioritize local adoptions within the Triangle area. If you’re outside our region, contact us to discuss whether exceptions can be made.

Fostering FAQs

1. What does fostering involve?
Fostering means providing a temporary home for a dog or cat until they are adopted. You’ll care for them as if they’re your own, helping them adjust to a home environment and sharing updates with our team to assist in finding the perfect adopter.

2. Who covers the costs of fostering?
Cause for Paws provides all veterinary care and can assist with food, supplies, and medication as needed. You provide love, care, and a safe environment!

3. How long will I have a foster pet?
The length of time varies based on the pet and their adoption timeline. It could be anywhere from a few weeks to a few months.

4. Can I foster if I have other pets?
Yes, but we’ll ensure the foster pet is compatible with your household. All pets in your home must be up-to-date on vaccines and spayed or neutered.

General FAQs

1. Do you have a shelter facility?
No, we are entirely foster-home based. All of our pets live in loving foster homes until they are adopted.

2. Can I volunteer with Cause for Paws?
Yes! We have a variety of volunteer opportunities, from helping at adoption events to assisting in our thrift stores. Visit our website to learn more.

3. What should I do if I find a stray dog or cat?
First, check with local shelters and veterinarians to see if the pet has a microchip. You can also post on social media and community platforms like Nextdoor to locate the owner. If no owner is found, contact us to discuss next steps.

4. Can I surrender a pet to you?
We do accept surrendered pets when space allows, but as a foster-based organization, we must secure a foster home first. All surrendered pets must be people- and pet-friendly. Submit a Surrender Form for consideration, but please note there are no guarantees.
